Bit-tech: The Conduit Hands-On Preview

The Wii has an odd relationship with most hardcore gamers; the type of love-to-hate thing that's usually projected at soap stars and reality show winners. Most gamers have one and they'll gladly break the Wii remotes out after a few pints in the pub, but the rest of the time they'll rage against it.

There are very few good games, after all. Boom Blox is great for afternoons with the kids, but what about when you want something more hardcore? That's where Nintendo's deplorably casual console falls down, as even the Zelda game for the platform is about as exciting as picking your nose.

It's around here then that Sega is stepping up to the plate lately, with games like Madworld and House of the Dead: Overkill trying to fill that market with the promise of gore and guns. There's also The Conduit, Sega's attempt to make the FPS format work on the platform.

MadWorld is fairly easy to play once you get used to holding A when picking up objects or grabbing enemies. From there, all you need is a crazy imagination.

id's Carmack: "Visually Stunning" Wii Games Possible

Known most notably for designing the DOOM code and his current "id Tech 5" engine behind racing-action game Rage, Carmack's knowledge of building graphic processes is unparalleled within the industry. Would it feel a little odd if someone of his experience began considering the Wii as the next system to push a major visual engine?

"Interestingly, I actually spend far more time playing Wii with my four year-old boy than I do with any other game console. So I'm definitely sympathetic to the platform," Carmack revealed to MTV's Multiplayer. "We've been pitched and talked about a project to do a title that would fit well on the Wii, and it's actually related to an iPhone title that we're doing. But that's still kind of up in the air as to what other developer we would partner with on there. I'd like to do something there, because I love a lot of what Nintendo has done with the Wii and the DS, but it's just out of sync with the developments that are currently going on at id."...

IGN: Should You Buy Prime?

E-mail Print PDF
When Nintendo announced its "New Play Control" line, which will bring some of the best GameCube titles back to Wii, including things like added motion control, IR support, 16:9 display, or the like, IGN was of course right there with them in wanting more people to enjoy some of the best of the best on the little purple box. IGN has now got US versions of New Play Control: Pikmin and New Play Control: Mario Power Tennis in their possession, but both of them pale in comparison to Retro's own New Play Control: Metroid Prime, which brings back silky smooth IR control from Corruption, and blends it with the classic GameCube title that to this day ranks among the best looking software running on Nintendo's new console.

But will you play it?
