You take the role of a former member of the Chosen, elite servants of the god Tchernobog, cast down without reason and stripped of power and identity. The game's four episodes are a quest for vengeance and understanding.

Players first seek out the other three chosen, then make their way to Tchernobog's domain for a final confrontation.

In Multiplayer mode the player has the choice of either cooperative play and BloodBath, which pits players against each other in a fast-paced frenzy that lives up to its name.

BLOOD is Bitchin. I for one, really like the Duke Nukem Game engine, because it is really fast, it is almost too fast if that is possible. Blood is based on the Build 3d engine, the same engine that was used for Duke Nukem 3D. In fact the original developer of the engine, Ken Silverman, is credited in the manual.

If you put yourself in Night of the Living Dead that is what Blood is like. The cultists are truly psychotic and the zombies only want your brains, once you progress to the other episodes it gets really tough there are rats, bats, spiders, bloated butchers, fanatics (meaner cultists), gargoyles, Hell Hounds, and phantasms. And those don't even cover the real bad guys. Don't think that you are going to be able to jump into the water to save yourself, because the waters of Blood are home to several varieties of nasties including Bone Eels, and Gill Beasts. The monsters in Blood are inventive and nasty, you marvel at the genius of the monsters as they are chewing on your recently dead body.

Your beginning weapon is a pitch fork, but you pick up a flare gun and dynamite, machine gun, shotguns, incinerators, and the powerful Tesla Cannon. Once you have killed the zombie you can kick his head around providing there is anything left (Soccer anyone?). When you have the incinerator, blowing zombies to bits is a riot. The Flare gun kills the zombie but then the zombie erupts into flame (think of the Torch from the Fantastic Four -- Flame On!) and runs straight towards you.

The game play is really good, it is very similar to Duke Nukem but better. Because the game plays faster, the imagery is darker, and the rendering is better. Duke Nukem felt very flat, but Blood does not have the same problem. Blood incorporates a great story, and immersive imagery and sound.

Online connectivity has not been left out of Blood, in fact you can connect to most major online services, through your modem or across the LAN. You can have up to 8 players, playing in either cooperative mode or in the BloodBath mode. In Blood Bath, the objective is to destroy as many of the enemy as possible. You haven't bathed until you've had a BloodBath.

The Blood team has made several enhancements to the Build engine, one of those is that you can change your key configuration in the game, and not through a separate application.

Blood is a very cool game, everybody should spill some. If you like 3D shooters then Blood should be a part of your collection. Buy it you won't regret it.

If you are a concerned parent, Blood does have a violence Lock out.
